MUSIC EDUCATION RESOLUTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY

"Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul."

I hope you enjoy browsing through my site and learning how you or your student can improve their academic success through musical studies.  ~ Victoria

PROBLEM: The greatest concern of many parents today is the quality of education that their child receives.  It is my belief, as has been proven through Duke and Harvard studies, that music not only improves the overall educational experience for each student, but also heightens their level of academic achievement.  Unfortunately, many states, including Tennessee, have reached a point of academic crisis and with each proposed solution comes another cut to our fine arts programs.  Sadly, many legislators do not recognize the importance of musical education.  While the government is attempting to solve the problems of obesity and low reading and math scores, solutions such as participation in marching band, orchestra, or chorus are not being considered.

PLAN:  I am working on implementing programs in elementary schools that would incorporate the use of classical music into learning. I am attending conferences and researching various methods.  I am in observation of several classes currently and am also teaching piano students and their parents the importance of music as I teach.  According to the “Mozart Effect,” this should raise academic scores and help the students to retain more of what they learn in class. I will continue to write educators and legislators to educate them on the “Mozart Effect,” and as a title holder, I would like to pursue an opportunity to address the Tennessee House and Senate.

PROGRESS: I am an active member of ACEI, Association for Childhood Education International and MENC - National Association for Music Education.  I promote pro-active music organizations that educate parents, educators and legislators about the importance of music education as an academic tool.  I write letters to educators and legislators and present my platform to individuals and groups. I have worked together with my home school board to fight for music in education at the state level.  Together we are working to educate our legislators on how music and education can be united for the common good of each student.  (c2005 Victoria Green)
